Elephant

Order Proboscidea

This order contains 2 species of elephants - African and Asian Elephants. Some split the African Elephant into 2 or more species.

In Singapore, the Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus) has become extirpated, but on very rare occasions, visitors have been found on Pulau Ubin1 and Tekong2. They came from the forests of Johor, Malaysia.
